Default 2011 Race Season Postponed

Aloha Members, Racers and Race Fans.

The 2011 race season at Maui Raceway park will be postponed atleast until April 2011. Valley Isle timing Assc and the County of Maui has planned to repave the track surface at our facility. VITA would also want to complete our trackside lighting project to compliment the new track surface. The completed project will offer our racers a safer facility to race on while giving our fans even greater record breaking runs.

VITA is working with the County of Maui to begin the project at the begining of the new year. The project will require a few months to be completed. The racing surface needs cure time before racing can take place.

Please keep in mind that the paving project is being handled by the County of Maui and not VITA. Delays may take place.

Our 2011 Race schedule will be posted as soon as the project nears completion

Anyone interested in helping with our lighting project can contact directors Mark Caires @276-8655 or Shayne Yamashita @385-8090.

Default Update

Happy New Year everyone. Heres a little update in regards to our paving project. All bids for the resurfacing of the dragstrip needs to be in by 1/10/11. Once the bids are open and awarded the Board will have a better outlook to the future of the 2011 season. Once that is done the Board will schedule a General Membership meeting to lay down the plans for 2011. At this point all we can do is wait until we get word from the County.

The Board will have its first Directors meeting of 2011 next week and plans for the lighting project will be discussed. Again anyone interested in helping with the project should contact Mark Caires or Shayne Yamashita. Numbers for both are listed above.

Default update as of 1/20/11

Aloha Everyone,

Heres the latest update in regards to our paving project at MRP. The County of Maui has awarded the project to Maui Kupono Builders, LLC. Per County officials the project should start within the next three weeks. The company should have everything completed within a month. The surface will also need cure time before we'll be able apply agent to the race track such as the LC6 traction compound. Methanol in the compound will damage the fresh pavement if it’s not cured.

The Board is hopeful, if all goes well we should get stared by April, if not the latest would be May. The board is also looking at a March General Membership meeting to go over the 2011 schedule. Hopefully by then we will a more definite outlook on how far the project has progressed.

In the mean time VITA will be posting up in coming track work days prior to our season opener. All volunteers will be credited for their 2011 work requirements.

Just as a neighbors in the Kihei area has suffered form water damage from the most recent winter storms we at MRP was no different. Large amounts water run off has destroyed are sand pit area as well as leaving large amounts of debris and mud in are shut down area. VITA will now be forced to have our sand pit redone prior to our opener or any racing take place. Also the area needs to be scraped to remove all the mud left on the asphalt. In some areas we have 2 to 4 inches of dried mud to be removed. Thankfully the track was shut down due to the paving project if not we would be down for the next two months anyway. If anyone has contacts with clean sand and a tractor trucks or backhoes please contact Mark Caires or Ken Sylva. The last time the pit was done it took over 20 plus truck loads to refill.

Please stay tuned for future track work day postings.

Default Update as of 2/12/11

Aloha everyone,

Our lighting project has taken another step closer to completion. This past weekend our friends from the IBEW electricians union came on by to wire up and install our new light poles. The poles were installed with the aid of Dave @ Maui Crane service. Heres a few pictures of the new lights.

Default Update 3/7/11 Let the paving begin

VITA is pleased to announce that our paving project is up and running. The contractors are hard at work and hopefully if the weather cooperates the project should be done in a week or two. Please keep in mind that MRP is now a live construction zone so visitors are not allowed in the facility. The track will be open on the spectator side for chassis inspections on March 12, 2011 @ 9:00 am. Here some pictures of the progress.

The main track was paved today and it looks great. The shut down area and pit road will be paved tommorow. The contactors also helped us out by fixing our sand trap which was damaged in last months floods. They are also giving our big parking lot a major face lift. Much Mahalos. Heres some of todays progress.
