For those of you who enjoyed the Ke Koa Hao - Iron Warrior event last October at the Hilo Stock Car Oval track, this is an update as to what is going on.
First off, thanks to everyone for their support and encouragement about this event, this was not the last, it was the first and more will be coming.
Okay, the situation involving the usage of the Stock Car oval is not going to happen. We have been getting too much flack in the regards to the usage of the stock car oval and it is just not worth the hassle of bucking heads with people, they have strong feelings about the stock car oval track and we will leave it at that. The county even got involved and before things really get out of hand, this is to inform everyone that the "Ke Koa Hao - Iron Warrior" will not again be held at the stock car oval unless the situation changes.
What we are trying to do is thanks to those interested in off-roading events who have come forward to help is to locate another location for the "Ke Koa Hao - Iron Warrior" We are looking at going in the area of Kohala/Waimea. Reason? It is easy to get to from both sides of the island and would involve a natural type of course for competition and recreational.
We made contact with several national off roading organizations such as the "United Four Wheel Drive Association,Inc." along with the "Off-Road Business Association, Inc." They have made us aware about Federal grants that are available for off-road recreation. There is also the HOA - Hawaii Offroad Association that we would like to get involved.
What are we trying to do here? Simple, we want to created a 30 to 50 acre off road park that can be used by off road enthusiats year round every weekend.
Can it be done? Yes, from the kind of response the Ke Koa Hao - Iron Warrior has received from the Hawaii community. I have been getting calls from all over Hawaii, asking about the event and wanting to participate.
This will not be an easy task and we will need the help of everyone. As more developes, it will be posted and information will be available. Some of you may feel that I am juggling too much, with the efforts to return the NHRA to the Big Island for the drag racers and now this for the off roaders, no, it is a matter of keeping my word to people to do the best I can for all the racers, on and off road, on the Big Island and in Hawaii
Any questions or comments, please let me know
