NHRA Chassis Inspection on Big Island

Aloha Everyone

I have gotten several calls about the NHRA and tech/chassis inspection for Big Island cars. What happened was the NHRA's Chris Forysth, one of the tech inspectors for the NHRA, was on Oahu recently and did the inspection on some 40 plus cars.

This was done so that they could race on Kauai and Maui, both NHRA tracks. Several of you have made contact with me and have inquired about the possibility of the NHRA conducting chassis inspections for the Big Island racers.

Mike Rice, the Western Division Director told me that he or another inspector would be willing to come to the Big Island should the racers want to be inspected.

Please let me know one way or the other those of you who would like to have a NHRA chassis inspection before I start to make arrangements for this.

Additional Information about NHRA Chassis Certification

I was asked a question about the NHRA's 90-day grace period by some of you.

Mike Rice, the NHRA's Pacific Division Director, related the following:

"If a car has not been certified for NHRA a 90-day is fine. If a car has
been previously certified for NHRA then there is no grace period."

I hope this is a help to all of you who may have had a question about the 90 day grace period.

He also related that he would work with us in regards to getting a NHRA Tech Inspector for Chassis Certifications to the Big Island, I am look at late summer.

regarding the Kona Side of Big Island....

Several of you from the Kona side have been calling regarding the NHRA Chassis Inspection, asking if it is possible to bring the tech inspector to the west side of the Big Island. as it is difficult (and expensive) to bring a race car to Hilo.

I see no problem with this, just need to know how many of you would like to have a chassis inspection done in Kona. Likely it can be set up for one day in Hilo, and the next day in Kona. I am still working on getting this done, and I am aiming at doing this some time about August.

We will need some help from those of you who want this in Kona, we need a location to do the inspection.
